Here is why: COMPARISON OF TRADITIONAL RIGID ONE PIECE SADDLE TREE AND NEW TWO-PIECE INDEPENDENT TREE SPORTS SADDLE® TREE PARTS: The Bob Marshall Saddles are made with independent "tree" parts, the pommel in the front, and the cantle at the rear section. The front saddle section works independently from the rear tree section. There is no rigid tree section in-between. This unique two piece "tree" lets the horse flex and move freely. The rider is able to sit closely to the horse, giving new meaning to the term "close contact". The rider sits in the middle of the two "tree" parts on the soft center section, which is finished in leather. Underneath the leather is a soft neoprene padding. The neoprene padding is sandwiched between the leather outer layer, and the soft fleece under layer of the saddle. Traditional Western rigging is utilized. There are no bulky buckles, straps or other annoyances to bother either the horse or rider. TRADITIONAL TREED SADDLES In contrast, a rigid treed saddle, being constructed of one piece, does not flex and move with the horse, making bending, flexing, and extensions of stride more difficult, and for many horses, uncomfortable. In a treed saddle, the rider's center of gravity is much higher. This is due to the rider sitting upon the rigid "bars", which are commonly suspended one to two inches off the horse's back. Hard turns, flexing and bending can be restricted due to the saddle bars which to not move with the horse.

WHY AN ORIGINAL BOB MARSHALL SPORTS SADDLE®?

In this saddle, many say that their horses move freer, more relaxed and fluid. The rider is also very in tune to the horse, in much closer contact. Some say it is almost like riding in a well cushioned bareback pad, but with much more security. Riding in a Sports Saddle® offers many of the same benefits to the rider as riding bareback, or with a bareback pad, such as being able to feel the horse, and being in very close contact. The sports saddle®, however, is more comfortable than riding bareback and much more secure than a bareback pad. The Sports Saddle® functions like a treed saddle, with greater rider comfort, closer contact, without the bridging and back problems often encountered with treed saddles.

My own personal experience has been wonderful. I can feel my horse's back rise and fall as he flexes, I can feel him breathe, I can feel his muscles tense ever so slightly on the rare occasional spook. We are both comfortable and relaxed as we ride the trails.

The bars of the treed saddle are often responsible for causing hot spots, friction, excessive pressure and the often complained of "dry spots", which are indicative of saddle pressure, and ill fit. The Bob Marshall saddle will fit more horses using the SAME saddle, than traditional treed saddles.

With the front and rear sections working independently, the saddle is free to conform to different width shoulders and height withers. This saddle fits more horses than any other saddle on the market.
